The Worcester Youth Poetry Slam is proud to announce that we are currently facilitating a weekly poetry and performance workshop, open to all teen writers and educators.

Join Worcester Youth Poetry Slam Director Alex Charalambides and Members of Past Youth Poetry Slam Teams for an informal writing & performance workshop series, helping the next generation of performance poets.

MONDAYS – 6pm-8pm

This workshops meets at the offices of the Worcester County Poetry Association, located at the Village Arts Center (first floor) at 1 Ekman Street in Worcester
(Ekman is a very small street, intersects with Greenwood Street (which is what Blackstone River Road becomes if you’re getting there from 146 or 290. you’ll actually skip Ekman Street & take first right into the parking lot of the Bethlehem Covenant Church which is at 46 Greenwood Street.

Village Arts Center shares a parking lot with the church, try to park on Village Arts Side.
Once you get in that parking lot, the office entrance is towards the back, there will be a youth slam sign on the door to let you know you’re in the right place.

These workshops are free & open to any teen writers who are interested in poetry slam. We also welcome local educators and guest poets to join the fun.

A man (I dont recall his name) gave me the name of this website after seeing me read two of my poems at the Jumpin Java and Juice’s poetry open mic. That is the only type of poetry gathering I have been to thus fall although I am deeply interested in continueing as I want a career in writing. I am currently a junior at Auburn High School. My conflict however is not school related, I am a mixed martial arts fighter and I have classes at 730-930 on mondays, wedndays, and unfortunatly fridays. I also have a cardio class from 6-730 on Tuesdays and Thursdays but I am willing to give that up if necessary. Other than those times I am almost always free. Thanks for showing such an intrest.

      Hi Rachael –
This is Alex from the Youth Slam. Sorry for the late reply. Right now, the only workshop is being held on Monday’s 6-8pm at Worcester County Poetry Office at 1 Ekman Street. click workshop page for directions. It’s pretty informal group writing and sharing session and you can participate whenever you want. We’re starting the new season of workshops next week, August 16th to get a head start on a new youth poetry slam season.
how old are you? where do you go to school? would you like me to add your email to our list so we can contact you about future events?
thanks for getting in touch with us. hope to hear some of your writing soon. :)

      Hi Rochelle –
Thanks for writing to us. Sorry for the late reply.
      Answers to your questions.
You don’t need to be experienced, just willing to work, share and listen.
We have a small (5-8 teenagers) group and we keep things pretty informal and fun.
I don’t teach a class that you have to be there from the beginning.
We meet every week (people don’t have to come every week) and usually I bring a poem that I’d like everyone to read, we discuss it, and then do some writing. We also have time for people to read and discuss stuff they’re already working on. Everybody’s really nice and we’re always looking for new people to join and build a community of writers who support each other. Most of the people in the workshop are also interested in performing their work as part of the poetry slam competition, but you don’t have to compete to join the workshop.
Let me know if you have any questions. We’d love to hear your work sometime.
      Alex
